Behind the scenes on my new music video

Once again I’ve had a productive music week.

First things first though, I’d just like to remind you that next Friday (21 July) I’ll be releasing my Bjork cover single ‘Human Behaviour’ and it will be available for download on iTunes or CD Baby and streaming on all the major streaming channels.

I’ll post again on the day, and the one thing I would be hugely grateful for your help with, is in sharing the links with all those friends and family members who you think would be interested in hearing it. For a musician, the biggest thing that supporters can do is to spread the word!

As well as organising the release of ‘Human Behaviour’ this last week,  I’ve been in music video shooting mode with Mike Raine for my 3rd album single release “Somewhere”.

It didn’t get off to a great start due to a bad choice of clothing on my part. I thought I looked nice under the soft (OK, atrociously bad) glow of the boat lights, but all I could focus on (when reviewing the first take) was all that white winter flesh showing!

Fortunately I had a fluffy jacket at hand (which I’d only taken with me to keep warm in between takes) so we decided that the summery looking video would have to become a winter, rugged up, looking video.  I’m just thankful I hadn’t taken an old baggy, jumper with me to keep warm – now that would have been an interesting look!

The video was all shot in front of a green screen and I’ve been spending the last 2 weeks collecting still photos to fill in the background.   It’s amazing how many I’ve needed to collect.  Each still only lasts about 4 seconds of the video time, so you can imagine that for a video nearly 4 minutes long I’ve had to collect nearly 60 stills.  It’s not been easy.

Anyway, we’re now onto the video editing stage and then I’ll organise a release date. If you’d like get the opportunity to see it pre-release then just sign up to my newsletters if you haven’t done so already. Here’s the link:

Finally, I just want to give you a ‘heads up’ about a ‘facebook live’ session I’ll be doing next week when I’ll be playing and singing a song for anyone who can tune in – and here’s the thing – it will be on my new digital piano !!!!!!!

If you’ve been reading my posts for a while now you’ll know that I haven’t owned a piano for over 20 years (as our previous boat was too small)  so this has been huge for me.  I’ve been practicing and practicing in the 5 weeks I’ve had it – trying to re-teach my fingers how to play as well as how to use it as a song-writing tool (all my previous songwriting has been done using a guitar).  I’m certainly now as proficient yet as I’d like to be, but I’m slowly getting there.  Anyway, you’ll hear how I’m getting on next week.

I’m hoping that this session will be the first of many to come.  I’m not quite sure exactly which day yet, but if you do miss it, don’t worry, I’ll be posting the replay in my facebook group “Laini’s Beach Shack” (which again is open to my all newsletter subscribers, so another great reason to sign-up if you haven’t already ).

So, until next week, take care

Laini xx
