It’s so great to be writing to you once again from Pied Piper. As many of you know, this boat has been my home for the past 8 years, but she will soon pass on to another owner who hopefully will love her as much as we have. I feel a little sad as she’s taken us on many adventures, but I am also excited at the thought of our new, larger boat which will be arriving down from Queensland late February (can’t help thinking about that keyboard I might be able to fit on board!). Anyway, before we finally sell Pied Piper, I’m going to take you on a video tour of both boats so that you can picture my 2 homes 🙂
The move back to the boat from our friend’s house (which we had been looking after for a few weeks whilst they went on holiday) went smoothly, except that my back seized up the next day – argh! I hobbled into the studio on Monday morning hoping that MIke didn’t have plans to finish shooting the video for my second single ‘Blue’ as it would mean carrying the piano out into his carport for some ‘green screen’ footage. Fortunately, he had a bad back too (LOL) so we both breathed a sigh of relief!
Although I found it a little uncomfortable to stand, I amazingly managed a good vocal for the cover song recording I’m now working on – ‘Teardrop’ by Massive Attack. “New Cat”- yes that’s his name (who is actually a rather thin and bony old cat who sheds fur onto my ankles every time I’m in the studio) however, wasn’t very impressed with my high notes. He sat inches away from the speakers the whole way through the song as we listened back, seemingly oblivious to the noise. That is, until my last high phrase, at which point his tail and ears started flicking wildly and with a glare at the speakers he haughtily stood up and sasheyed out of the room. I tried not to take it personally!
We just have a little more work to do on ‘Teardrop’, but we’ve already started working on “In the waiting line” by Zero 7. I’m feeling very impatient to start sharing more music with you again. The Portishead ‘Roads’ cover which I recently finished just needs mixing and mastering, but as soon as it’s finished you’ll be the first to hear it.
Now my request for a little help 🙂 My Spotify page is now up and running with my first single ‘Dreams Come’. However, I cannot, however, become a Verified Artist until I get 250 followers. If you are on Spotify I would be really grateful if you could go to my Artist Page ‘Laini Colman’ and follow me to help me reach this number. Thank you so much in anticipation!
So, until next time, take care
Laini xx
