It’s been a little while since I’ve updated you on progress with my second album, so here goes!
Well, it’s going well, but very, very slowly. I’m OK with slow but sure though – I’d rather be totally happy with the choice of each track and the recording itself, rather than releasing something which I’m only half happy with. So far I have 17 songs all recorded in at least demo form, from which I need to choose 10 or 11 songs for the album, although I may record a couple more to add to the mix.
There’s one song I’d like to talk about in particular today though, as it kind of sprang out of nowhere about a month ago, and even took me by surprise. It’s a great example of how inspiration can be drawn from the unlikliest of places.
A few weeks ago one of the members of my facebook group “Laini’s Beach Shack” (open to all my newsletter subscribers) asked the group to share weird album titles they’d come across. It was hilarious! I have to say, I had never come across most of them! Have you ever heard of these for example?
- Several Species Of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together In A Cave And Grooving With A Pict.
- The Lipstick Conspiracies.
- Radical Action to Unseat the Hold of Monkey
This was longest one someone shared!
- When the Pawn Hits the Conflicts He Thinks like a King What He Knows Throws the Blows When He Goes to the Fight and He’ll Win the Whole Thing ‘fore He Enters the Ring There’s No Body to Batter When Your Mind Is Your Might so When You Go Solo, You Hold Your Own Hand and Remember That Depth Is the Greatest of Heights and If You Know Where You Stand, Then You Know Where to Land and If You Fall It Won’t Matter, Cuz You’ll Know That You’re Right.’
I know – totally bizarre!
Anyway, it got me thinking that it would be really fun to work with some of these weird and wonderful album titles and see if I could come up with a song. There was definitely an element of luck with what I had in front of me to work with, but today I thought I’d share with you the final lyrics. Here they are:
Who’s Been Sleeping in my Brain
Projections in the astral plain
Throw light on the green bubbled raincoated man
And feed the rats in the sewers and drains
Such a melancholy jam
Those brutes, the harpies make their nests
While the bushes scream as daddy prunes
Then those ravenous beasts sway with the picts
Under a cold and naked moon
Who’s been sleeping in my brain
Who’s been sleeping in my brain
Who’s been sleeping in my brain
Who’s been sleeping in my brain
See I’m blind in safety and leafy in love
But ready to uphold the throne of the monkey
Cos depth is the greatest of heights from above
To an infatuated junkie
Who’s been sleeping in my brain
Who’s been sleeping in my brain
Who’s been sleeping in my brain
Who’s been sleeping in my brain
I know my lips keep wandering by mistake
What they know throws the blows
Antics in a forbidden zone
Conspiracies, conspiracies, conspiracies
Who’s been sleeping in my brain
Who’s been sleeping in my brain
Who’s been sleeping in my brain
Who’s been sleeping in my brain
Who’s been sleeping in my brain
Who’s been sleeping in my brain
Who’s been sleeping in my brain
Who’s been sleeping in my brain
The instrumental production is complete and I’ve started work on recording the vocals. I have to say I’ve really challenged myself with this one vocally, but it’s coming together nicely. I can’t wait to share it with you once my album is complete. I will be sharing it with members of the Beach Shack first though as a thank you for all the inspiration, so if you’re not already a member and would like to be, then just head on over and put in your best e-mail address when prompted.
